Community Vision, of Community Ministry of Montgomery County, Maryland, provides Vocational Services to the homeless population. In order to assist clients with becoming self-sufficient a series of nine Job Readiness classes are held. One of the classes, "Basic Budgeting, Credit Cards & Savings", is conducted by Mr. Lee Acker of The Credit Network. Thus far, Mr. Acker has conducted two classes and they have provided valuable information to the clients we serve.
The presentations have been tailored to meet the unique needs of the homeless population. Additionally, Mr. Acker conductUed a workshop for the staff of Community Ministry, which was very well received. Mr. Acker has been very responsive to our requests and has demonstrated a willingness and ability to make presentations to a diverse audience. The Credit Network has become an invaluable part of Community Vision's program, and we hope that this relationship will continue for many years to come.

Montgomery Housing Partnership’s
IDA Program equips motivated individuals and families
to attain their goals of financial self-sufficiency and
home ownership by cultivating their inner-drive to succeed.
For example, Sherrie is passionate about improving her
financial standing. At the financial literacy workshops
provided by MHP and The Credit Network, she heard about
the negative impact of debt on her credit score and how
it affects her ability to purchase a home. She quickly
applied what she learned and minced her credit cards
with a scissors, took out a low-interest loan from her
local credit union to pay off her high-interest credit
card debt, and closed those same crippling credit accounts!
Feeling liberated, Sherrie exclaimed, “You know,
I heard about this option in the workshops,” and “it’s
because of you and Lee that I’m starting to turn
my life around.”
The Credit Network’s collaboration with Montgomery
Housing Partnership has strengthened the IDA Program
and helped bring it to new levels of delivery. Lee Acker’s
presentations bring clarity to otherwise complex subjects,
and the participants recognize that he genuinely respects
them and cares about their financial vitality. He is
a delight to collaborate with; Lee is punctual, organized,
detail-oriented, and motivated. MHP eagerly anticipates
working with Lee Acker and The Credit Network in the
future.

Dear TCN:
Yes, I have been involved with the
program for a few years now. My debt load is actually
going down, we have money in our savings account. The
bills that are left are few and far between and my wife
and I are a lot less stressed out about being in such
a deep financial hole. When we started we owed over
$65,000.00, now our debt is about $35,000 and going
down each month.
We are seeing light at the end of the
tunnel. Not to say it is a perfect arrangement and at
times it was quite stressful to stay the course, but it
seems to be working and we are happy with the program...
Hope more people in the US realize that
they are being played by the banks and credit card companies
and sold into a life of financial slavery. So get with
the program and start to make you adult lives whole again.
We did and are glad. The first step is to recognize that
we were in deep financial trouble, over our heads with
debt.
That is our story, hope you like it,
because it is true.

Dear TCN,
Thank you so much for your help with
the arrangement of my credit card bills. I have joined
the program in April 2001 and very pleased to say that
I will reach my final payment sooner that I have expected.
I would definitely recommend the TCN program to all my
friends and family who is in need for debt management.
Thank you again.

To TCN:
The best step I ever took in my life
with my debt was contacting your agency. From my
first counselor contact to ALL other reps that assisted
me they have done an outstanding job.
They didn't make me feel like I was a failure they were
all encouraging, and so very helpful and no problem was
a big deal, ever. Your online access is very easy and
helpful also, but sometimes it would be nice to see the "total
of debt still owed"
as to what I started out with....
It is a sense of accomplishment when
those monthly bills come and you see the debt going DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has given me a good feeling about
myself to know I am completing my obligations to my creditors,
it WAS my fault for the debt. Your agency has helped me
with peace of mind.
Thank you for being there.

To TCN:
TCN has helped me tremendously! I would
have really been in a worse position if I had not made
the call and stayed with the program even when I was deployed
overseas. I loved the program and would love to take advantage
of other options that might be available to me thru the
network. If possible, send some information on other programs
I might be able to take advantage.
And once more thank you all.
